How To Heal Yourself?

Do you think that we have the power to heal ourselves? Our minds are powerful, but are they powerful enough to change the way we live? Healing does not mean taking a painkiller. That way, we would be only treating the symptom and ignoring the cause.

Healing has a very broad definition, but it is not confined to only hospital visits and doctor’s appointments. It doesn’t always imply spending time in a waiting room, anxious about a diagnosis. Healing also is not confined to physical wounds and issues like colds, coughs, and fevers.

There has been a rise in alternative healing therapies and yoga retreats. There has also been an increase in the popularity of meditation, and these topics keep trending in the media from time to time.

What is Self-Healing?

Self-healing is the process of recovery purely motivated and guided by the instinct of a person. This is largely based on the level of will power and belief. It is a way of removing any kind of blockage that stops us from realising our full potential.

Solutions for various issues that we face on a day to day basis can be tailor-made accordingly. This process is very holistic compared to conventional medicinal practices. It sees an individual as a sum of parts, as a whole.

This practice adapts to different approaches as every person is unique and is who they are because of their experiences. Each person responds differently to different situations. Self-healing practice discards the notion of one solution fits all. It treats every person as an individual with limitless potential to transform their lives.

How Does It Work?

The important thing to realise is the powerful connection between your body and mind. A lot of research studies show that our state of mind can affect our body. For example, being stressed out about a work project, can cause headaches and put you in a low mood all day. The opposite can also be true. Moods can cause physical distress.

On the other hand, positive thinking can assist in speeding up the healing process. Having a strong motivation and belief can help in manifesting results at a much faster pace as well.

Steps for Self-Healing

Once you understand the meaning and realise the importance of self-healing, then the steps to follow it and to make it a part of your life becomes very clear and simple.

Read on to know what they are.

  1. Listen to Your Body- Be attentive towards how your body is reacting to various situations and stressors. Train yourself to be attuned towards even the most minute changes as our bodies are very sensitive. Following these clues can lead to a much deeper understanding of ourselves.

  1. Be Mindful of your Emotions- A positive attitude does not guarantee an absence of bad days and moods. A positive attitude is a simple acknowledgement that, “Yes, times are tough but they won’t last long.” Being mindful is not focusing on the negativity and not attempting to control the flow of thoughts. It is about trying to engage in activities such as meditation or hobbies to distract yourself. It is about taking one step at a time.

  1. Maintain a Journal- This is a great way to keep a check on what is happening and a way to ground yourself to reality, rather than taking fearful flights in the land of anxiety ridden imagination. Putting words on paper can prove to be cathartic and things will seem more manageable and less overwhelming.

  1. Practice Positivity- It takes a while to replace the negative thought process with more assuring and affirming positive thoughts. Practice this with serious discipline and incorporate this into your daily life. Start by practicing a simple affirmative exercise. Repeat this to yourself every morning:
    “I am a good person.”
    “I am successful.”

“I am doing everything in my power to do my best.”

  1. Exercise Everyday- Apart from keeping you fit and strong, research suggests that regular workouts can aid the healing process by pumping up endorphins and immunity. Even though it feels difficult and tough to motivate yourself to workout, doing even a little bit each day can go a long way.

  1. Proper Sleep and Diet- There’s a saying that, “You are your thoughts.” The same also goes for the quality of sleep and the type of food you eat. Make it into a habit by going to bed at the same time and find ways to wind down. Avoid caffeine and sugar before bedtime and include greens in your diet.

  1. Lastly, don’t forget to love yourself- It is important to love yourself and give yourself credit for making efforts to heal yourself. We must honour and love our body we have as we are what we have in the end. We must be thankful for it.

There are several long lasting benefits of practicing self-healing. It can result in a dramatic decrease in stress and anxiety. It can improve bodily functions, improve circulation, and sleep. It can lead to better moods and better relationships with people. When you are happy, it reflects in your world view as well. It also gives you a better way to handle stressful situations, which are a part and parcel of life.

Always remember that problems are temporary. Bad times are situational and they won’t last forever. We must keep finding more and more ways to deal with them and become better as a whole.
